Recover ROOT GRUB


STEP 1: Once you start GRUB press the E (edit).
STEP 2: Select the line below and press the E (edit).
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2-6-26-2-686 root=/dev/hda2 ro quiet
STEP 3: Add at the end of the line parameter: init = / bin / bash press ENTER
grub edit> kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2-6-26-2-686 root=/dev/hda2 ro quiet init=/bin/bash
STEP 4: Above the line below press button B (boot).
Kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2-6-26-2-686 root=/dev/hda2 ro quiet init=bin/bash
STEP 5: Making the root directory (/) editable.
Type: mount –o remount, rw /
STEP 6: Edit the file that stores user passwords encrypted.
# vi /etc/shadow
STEP 7: The first line is the root user with the password encrypted.
Root: $1$HI:x/5WF$jBM6D6DmrN90EjoK7D1NK.:12212:0:99999:7:::
STEP 8: Remove the encrypted password:
root::12212:0:99999:7:::
:wq! (Exit and save changes)
STEP 9: After restarting the linux kernel select:
Debian GNU/Linux, Kernel 2.6.26-2-686
STEP 10: Logue in linux using root user without password.
debian login: root <ENTER>
11 STEP: Change the root password to one of your own.
debian:~# passwd <ENTER>
Enter new UNIX password: password <ENTER>
Retype new UNIX password: password <ENTER>
